It is because of that raffle that our friendship developed. Someone suggested we give Tiffany a raffle ticket, and she could show people her ticket when encouraging them to enter.
All was fine and well until Father Joe said his opening prayer, and then asked Tiffany to pull a winning raffle ticket from the box.

In fact, all would have remained fine, had she not drawn her own ticket. ;) Well all thought it was rather entertaining, but she felt horrible about it.
Quick on her feet, our Small Wonder asked that all the children turn in the half of the ticket still in their possession, with their initials on the back, and she would select a new winner of two tickets to Disneyland.

Being the youngest of four children, I didn’t see the point in winning two tickets… but my father and friends encouraged me to put my stub in, and I did. And she pulled my name!

Talk about the luckiest day of my life! Okay, it may not sound that way yet – but things were just beginning to happen. While the balloons were being launched Tiffany had a private heart to heart talk with her mother, one that a friend of my father’s overheard and told us about.

Tiffany was working with another charity, a make-a-wish foundation type project, and she’d befriended a young cancer patient who was dying, and had recently told Tiffany she had never been to Disneyland.

Our Small Wonder was wishing she had kept the ticket for this dying child instead of raffling it off again, but she felt she had had no choice in the matter.

As I said, I’m one of four kids, two tickets meant mom and dad were still going to have to spend a lot of money for a day of fun, and I was busy feeling guilty about that. Enter family friend and an impromptu conference.

By the time we were done, Tiffany had two tickets to Disneyland, and I had an invitation to the set of Small Wonder, and a new friend!
